Wet

New York City is currently being inundated with the wettest, sloppiest snow imaginable. Makes for a damp commute. I'd much rather get wet floating in this gorgeous pool. (Check out more photos of this amazing home — with an amazing story.)

Gilt frames

I'm loving these delicate frames in a white interior.

Red and black

I like the paint job on these stairs. Seems about right for punk fans with children.

Lots of white. But enough contrast to keep it interesting.

Clean and modern

A house in Denmark. Look at those black-stained cabinets! Love them! I wonder what it would take to get that effect on my own kitchen cabinets? (Gorgeous dining set too.)

I love glass-doored cabinets too.

Slick fireplace.

Paris is a go!

Noticed more French homes around here lately? I am so excited to be visiting Paris this spring! This will be my first visit as a grown-up. If anyone has any decor-related suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Clip is from the only Godard film I've ever liked. The characters are trying to break the world record for visiting the Louvre.

Extraordinary home

The Bordeaux home of architect Patrick Hernandez and his wife, antique dealer Florence Lopez. Remember that green I was so taken with? Here it is again. (Couldn't bear to crop this photo, but if you double click on it, you can view it bigger.)

Black kitchen, with the matte black paint even covering the appliances! The table and chairs are stunning. And hello giant industrial pendant!

Metal strips cover damaged floorboards.

Original stone meets cheery yellow.

Their color sense is so on. I love it when fancy homes feel so casual, so relatable. You just forget that all the furniture is alarmingly expensive.

Lemon fresh

It's the dead of winter and the streets of New York are piled with dirty brown snow. I think that might explain my sudden craving for a lemon tree in my apartment.

It's hard to believe, but Roseland Greene has hit 500 posts. Not sure I saw this coming when I started the blog, but I'm happy to get here. Thanks to everyone who has ever commented — it's been great to "meet" other people as obsessive about interiors as I am.

Apartment in Copenhagen

A little whimsy for the end of the week.

from Marie Claire Maison, Italy

Before and after

Well, I might have been ready to give up on Lonny, but then Design Crisis pointed out their Kelly Wearstler feature, and I realized I had to look at it after all. I ended up discovering my favorite sort of before and after — one where both were designed by the same person. It's nice to see how tastes evolve (and budgets increase) over time.

Here is Ryan Korban, featured on The Selby in 2008. That black kitchen was certainly eye catching! I seem to remember this photo being used in a lot of the early press about Todd Selby's photos.

Now here's Korban's apartment in the third isssue of Lonny. Kitchen layout is the same. Same Chinese vase above the fridge, same white mirror. But the black paint has been replaced with a super bold wallpaper. Interesting, right?

Teeny tiny NY apartment

I'm always fascinated with what people do with apartments that are even smaller than mine. In this case, just 178 square feet! Here, wood panelling, stained green, adds considerable character to a minimal kitchen.

Navy blue in the bathroom. I must say, given the size of the apartment, that's a really big tub.

Art wall inspiration

I need to tackle the intimidating task of rearranging my art wall. The good ones always look really spontaneous, but in my experience, it takes a lot of maneuvering to get everything balanced just right.

Everyday beauty

When I travel overseas, I always visit supermarkets and drugstores — just to look at the products. Oftentimes, you can only appreciate product design when you look at it with foreign eyes. In these days of global brands, it's often harder to find really interesting local stuff, but it's out there — and makes for a cheap souvenir. Which brings us to this photo of a Swedish kitchen. These spice jars make such a bold, graphic statement. And they're functional!

Wood and concrete

A combination I'd previously admired here. Wide-slat wood floors are not what you'd expect in a concrete home, but they make a big difference. I've always liked that chair. I like that lamp too, although it seems like it would be hard to keep clean.

Apartment in New York

Amazing designers Roman and Williams (see previous posts about their work here and here) have created a brand new building in New York featuring "prewar" details and construction techniques. I've been intrigued by the project, which is not your run-of-the-mill luxury condo. This shot is from the now completed model apartment. The furnishings display the usual Roman and Williams chic. As for the apartment itself, I notice the low, deep window seat and interior glass wall. Ah, if I had 10 million dollars...

New colors!

Yes, here's a painted-white floor (to continue with the theme), and the floorboards look a bit too nice to be painted, but WAIT, stop the presses! Are those Arne Jacobsen lamps — in color? Indeed they are. Special issue for the lamp's 50th anniversary. Want.
