I bought a rug for my apartment this weekend (this is not it!). Actually, somebody bought me a rug, but I helped pick it out. In my head, I was envisioning something like this picture, but I ended up with something very different (and rather less exciting). While this whole blog might seem like a monument to consumerism, in fact I buy very little for my apartment and very reluctantly. I certainly can't manage that constant rotation and reinvention of furnishing that I see in many of the blogs I admire. I am cheap, cautious, and I want everything I buy to last for the rest of my life. That's not the stuff that brilliant rooms are made of.

Ah well. This is my 1,000 post at Roseland Greene. How'd that happen?

The Selby shoots the same apartment, now with a different resident. If I moved into a place already papered with that classic wallpaper (in NYC, strongly associated with Indochine), I'd leave it up too.

Made from a $5 Ikea mirror. Pretty snappy with that red cord. I'm a sucker for colored cords!

Wood love

The totally awesome and inspiring Morgan of The Brick House just posted a tutorial on cleaning and restoring wood. I've got some sad, thirsty furniture in my apartment, so the post is a definite clip-n-save for me.

Before and after

Well, I might have been ready to give up on Lonny, but then Design Crisis pointed out their Kelly Wearstler feature, and I realized I had to look at it after all. I ended up discovering my favorite sort of before and after — one where both were designed by the same person. It's nice to see how tastes evolve (and budgets increase) over time.

Here is Ryan Korban, featured on The Selby in 2008. That black kitchen was certainly eye catching! I seem to remember this photo being used in a lot of the early press about Todd Selby's photos.

Now here's Korban's apartment in the third isssue of Lonny. Kitchen layout is the same. Same Chinese vase above the fridge, same white mirror. But the black paint has been replaced with a super bold wallpaper. Interesting, right?

Little kitchen

I've enjoyed reading about Door Sixteen's new project of fixing up a small apartment in Manhattan. Here's the kitchen: one black wall, two Eames chairs and a flip-down table from Ikea. The table seems particularly clever for a small space.

Snowed in

We had a snowstorm this weekend, but I'm hardly snowed in. Instead, unlike previous years, I have to go to work both this week and the next. Sigh. I'd rather be curled up under a blanket with tea, cookies and decorating magazines. So I'm going to take a little blogging vacation. See you soon!

Speaking of cool ladies, this weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to a little blogger party in honor of Stephanie's move to New York. P of What Possessed Me was the gracious hostess and served super-yummy food. Good times.
