Lisbon dream

This recent article in the Times propelled Lisbon to the top of my "places I want to visit" list. These interiors fuel the fire. Maybe this fall...

The baroque aesthetic of the blue and white tiles is not to everyone's taste but everyone gains a new appreciation for it during a visit to Lisbon. These decorative pieces are everyone from ordinary façades to church and palace interiors, and the best part of a visit is discovering them by chance and taking time to admire these true works of art. Guidebooks fail to point out the most notable examples, but here's a good guide: http://www.lisbonlux.com/culture/azulejos.html.
You may also choose to stay at the old-style hotels (not necessarily the palace hotels) to find rooms such as the one pictured on your post.

What a lovely, beautifully written article. I may be in Australia, but Lisbon's now on my list too!
