Can I just say that I really like this bed even though it doesn't seem to fit into my general aesthetic? I don't know. It's pretty, and I can see it mixing well with pieces from different eras. from Chris Chen

After my last post, that is. I miss the blue, but those lamps still look great.
I still maintain a fondness for Neisha Crosland patterns. See a paler version of "Merlin" in a previous post here.
Goodness, my own humble apartment looks especially sad next to the pictures I like to post!
I posted about Apartamento magazine a few months ago. I recently discovered that the excellent blog Man Make Home has some scans from one of my favorite features — this dark-hued apartment. Cozy, stylish and lots of personality!
I love how these bookshelves wrap around the corner. (That submarine-like door at the end of the hall is sort of weird though.)
Love a crisp use of black and white and color like this. Nice lamp.
I am crazy in love with this bookcase. First off, I love floor-to-ceiling bookcases as a rule. But then, I just love how it's clearly custom made to accommodate all the owners stuff. I want a bookcase like this one day!
It's a real balancing act to pull this off without looking romper-room. Note the extra variety of the bench.
This is Marrakech, supposedly, but I'm not sure what part of the house got this tile-over-everything treatment. It's a pretty color, and great texture. The black hardware (?) is quite chic, and then they've styled it with black accessories (and tea!) to match. Do you have to live in Morocco to go crazy with colored tile?
I suppose this is only fearless in the sense that people never seem to want colored cabinets or appliances anymore. I think Smegs are fun. Of course any kitchen is going to look better with bones like these — high ceilings, great windows, lovely light. That scruffy dog has nothing to feel sheepish about!
Well, wallpapering the ceiling is a little over the top, but honestly the thing I don't like about this room are the columns, which seem a little cheap-n-cheesy. Otherwise, this place has two things I love — blue and white, and natural, unpretentious wood. That giant mirror lightens things up a bit. It's borderline, I know, but strip down those columns and I quite like it.
I was so thrilled today to see that Design*Sponge had posted the home of Dave Alhadeff of The Future Perfect, Brooklyn's most interesting (and most exasperating) design store. I saw this home in a layout in Elle Decoration UK and was very tempted to buy it — but frugality won out, and now I can gaze on it for free. And it really fits the little "fearless decorating" theme I'm working this week. I would never paint a room that color, but it kind of works for him, and I admire that. And check out those floors! Clearly, he started with a very interesting raw space...
How amazing is that metal sliding door thing! Styling it with the cherry blossom branch is so beautiful I can overlook the terrifying pig in the corner.
While I'm thinking along fearless lines, I'll throw in this memorable pic from old Domino (and also this book), with its eyepopping Geoff McFetridge wallpaper. Major impact!
Erin made on comment on my "red lights" post about the combination of ruby red and pale blue, and here's a fearless example!
I like the colors and the elegance of the built-ins in this room of the Radisson SAS Hotel in Copenhagen. Designed by Arne Jacobsen!
Lots of imagination here. And a lot of unexpected stuff going on. I must question the lack of doors, but otherwise I quite like this.
Another nice modern space.
I know I post an awful lot of pictures of modern furniture in old spaces — what can I say? I like the combination. But here's some modern furniture in a modern space. And it looks pretty great. Colorful and homey. It's far from being too perfect; it's laid-back and has a (slightly) hippie vibe. Of course, it's in Berkeley!
This is a great-looking renovation. I like how the modern elements blend in with the historic space. What a great skylight!
That unexpected chandelier is totally charming.
More stacked wood! I love the teeny-tiny pendant light on the long, long cord and that (neon?) star lamp. Plenty of personality in a neutral space!
Certainly have enough wood for that fireplace, don't they? (Is the stacked wood thing a stylist cliche at this point?) The photo is showing off the hippie charm of that Marimekko fabric, but I just LOVE those wooden dining room chairs.
Feels like a while since I've posted an art wall. This one is quite expansive and looks great (although the super-high ceilings help). I also like what looks like an extra-long red lacquer sideboard (I'm a sucker for red lacquer). On the other hand, I've never warmed up to Panton chairs; they just look so plastic.
So after a midweek sojourn to the land of dark paint, I feel I must revisit this cottage in Cornwall with a few more shots.
The aged walls!
But a cleaner and fresher look in the bedrooms, which is quite appropriate.
Plus, doggies! These two look so cozy and comfy I'm willing to revise my opinion on bean bag chairs.
I kind of like the wide plank siding used here. And what's that I see in the backround?
Yet more black shelving. With a giant, industrial ladder!
I can't resist a few more black interiors. This black kitchen has custom cabinets. I like the way the uncovered sections are painted a (pale) color. It makes the kitchen a lot more homey. So do the items they choose to display — a little messy and fresh. Not the overly curated modernism you might expect in such a "designed" space.
It just might be a functional kitchen!
No sooner did I post about black paint, that I spotted this picture of Anna's bathroom ceiling! The bathroom is still a work-in-progress, but she's almost there, and I can't wait to see it!
So, even darker than the blue is black. I still toy with painting a single wall black, and it's interesting to see black used successfully as an accent.
And this is just a "styled" shot, but I like the look of the matte black paint on the panels. The key in any dark interior seems to be balancing it with lights/whites.
I love, love, love Cornwall, UK, but I think I would love this house, even if it wasn't located there. Let's look at all the amazing things in this photo. The floors and fireplace. The built-in glass cabinet. The elegant, but comfortable furniture. And of course, the aged wall.
I'm always a sucker for those walls. Look at this office!
