What's up with American decorating mags?

I received my last Domino tonight and I'm a little sad.

I think I'm highly particular in my decorating tastes, because there's no magazine to take its place. How is it that Britain produces Elle Decoration and Living Etc. (not to mention The World of Interiors) and America can't support a single decorating magazine I'd want to buy? (I have a lot of respect for Dwell, actually, and it's fun to read, but not to TREASURE, the way a really good deco magazine is — I'm just not enough of a modernist, I guess.) American subscriptions cost next to nothing, so I can't crow about saving money now (especially if I turn to expensive foreign mags as consolation), but it IS good not to have the magazines cluttering up my little apartment.

(At least, not decorating magazines. The New Yorkers seem to breed while I'm sleeping!)

I totally agree. The European/Aussie mags kill me with how good they are (and how expensive), and meanwhile we're left with Elle Decor and... Architectural Digest?

I could certainly have mentioned the Aussies. I looked at an Inside Out at Barnes & Noble this week and it felt like one knockout after another.

Architectural Digest is supposedly going to fill out my Domino subscription. I'm hoping it's not as stuffy as I remember!

I feel your pain! I read so many magazines every month, but in the past year six of them have stopped publication, and now it's like my heart isn't in it anymore. I do read the mags from Britain and Australia, but one thing I loved about Domino was the easy sourcing of items. Not necessarily to buy the, but to learn more about them, as I LOVE design. Sigh. . .

I love the idea of magazines breeding... like tribbles.

I have got to check out some of the Aussie mags; it's just that my bank account keeps complaining.

Ok here I was thinking i was the only one! Living Etc. is my life blood and the English/Aussie versions of interior decor mags are FAR superior to American versions. When I go to the bookstore, I always head to the "foriegn" section of the magazine racks first.
