Prague

While the appeal of Berlin seems somewhat intangible, the appeal of Prague is not. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful city on earth. This is my third visit (although spaced out over 30 years) and the place still has the power to amaze at every turn. The only catch, of course, is that like all places in this world that are both incredibly beautiful and easily accessible, it has a bit of a tourist problem. Visiting mid-week in October, I managed to avoid the worst of it. I stayed in Mala Strana (so could enjoy it in the early morning and night), had breakfast at Cafe Lourve (pictured below), spent a good portion of one day wandering around the tourist-free reaches of Vinohrady, and sought out modernism wherever I could. All in all, it was totally awesome.

We now return to our regularly scheduled interiors blogging.

I'm going there in July to study art for a couple of weeks. The schools actually in Plzen, but I'll mostly be exploring Prague. I'm so so so excited, so when I saw your post, I nearly fainted! Its even more beautiful than I could have imagined. Can't wait!! If you have any "must visits" give me a heads up!

The pleasures of Prague come out via exploring. So bring comfy shoes that you can do a lot of walking in.

I imagine the tourist problem will be off the charts in July, so if you have the opportunity to stay in the city, get up very early one morning and visit the Charles Bridge pre-infestation. Otherwise, head out from the center. The city is surprisingly big, and there's a lot of interest beyond the tourist hamster run.

Lastly, I bought a pint-sized handbook that had some consistently good suggestions: Lonely Planet Encounter, Prague. Enjoy!

I adore Prague, wish I could afford to make a European trip, I'm all the way across the world here in Australia ... Oh well at least we are heading into Summer, but I still would much rather be in Europe !!!

Prague is probably my favorite European city. Funny, we ate at the Cafe Louvre several times while we there there. I would kill for one of those breakfasts right now.
